Sometimes a moment feels heavier than a complete spiral, and on Friday, Bagent, Chicago’s backup QB, delivered just that.
The Deal That Changed Everything
The Chicago Bears signed Bagent to a two-year extension of $10M, potentially making a total of $16M with incentives. This was a decade long dry spell, as no player at as quarterback has been extended since Jay Cutler in 2014.
Tears Were Present in the Huddle
After practice, Bagent got up to the mic and could not hold the waterworks back. Almost immediately, tearful promises came through as he shared how this deal would change life for everyone he cares about, more so for his father who did not even have running water until high school.
“It’s certainly a weight off my shoulders, and my family’s shoulders.”
Praise from Above
GM Ryan Poles left no doubt about how he feels about Bagent: “There isn’t a harder worker on this football team than Tyson Bagent.” Head coach Ben Johnson also chimed in, describing Bagent as “phenomenal” and a person that impacts the culture.
Why This Deal Means Something
Bagent went undrafted from Shepherd University (D-II) but showed toughness and poise unlike many (or even any). He had four starts during his rookie year – which speaks volumes that the Bears have always seen something special in his game.
Tyson Bagent did not just sign a contract, he made a legacy. Through tears and authenticity, he reminded all of us that some players, their real victory is lifting the whole world.
